□ Name: Gellert Grindewald
□ Series: Harry Potter
□ Canon point: I want to take Gellert in the summer of 1899 which he spends in Godric Hallow, right after Ariana Dumbledore's death. In canon the flashbacks and mentions of Gellert (though unnamed at first) take place in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with Gellert in chapters 13 and 18. However, I want to take him directly from before the duel according if agreement with the mods so he would be taken from the flashbacks that appear in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows chapter 18, the Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore.
□ History:
Gellert Grindwald was born in 1883 in Germany. His parents were important pureblood wizards in the magical society of Germany. He grew up with money, power (as much as a child is given), and intelligence that sometimes seemed beyond his years. Readily taking to learning and reading, he studied even beyond the tutors his parents had instructing him before he entered Durmstrang Institute in 1894. Adapting quickly to the curriculum, he began to surpass it, growing bored with the things taught and wanting to know more that would help him achieve more knowledge and power. He began to experiment with spells and potions to reach this goal. His focus seemed to easily gravitate toward the Dark Arts branch of magic. It was in school that he first learned the tales of the Deathly Hallows. He grew particularly interested in finding the three items to gain the power they gave the owner for himself alone. He could only imagine the power he'd have if he succeeded in becoming the rightful owner to all three of the Death Hallows. The tale was said that having all three Deathly Hallows would allow the owner to overcome death itself. It was in his sixth year, at the age of sixteen, he was expelled for causing more harm than good with his experiments in the Dark Arts. Many thought his experiments and research had gone too far and not only endangering himself, it endangered everyone in the school.
After he was expelled, he went aboard to live with his great-aunt Bathilda Bagshot in Godric's Hollow during the summer. It was the last known owner of the Cloak of Invisibility was buried which piqued his curiosity in the area. During his stay with his great aunt, he met Albus Dumbledore, a wizard fresh out of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Albus had a younger brother, Aberforth, and sister, Ariana, that Albus took care of. Ariana was had been attacked by muggles for being a witch in the Dumbledore's former family home and was never the same after which caused Albus great worry and concern. The two young adults bonded over the idea of a world where wizards ruled over muggles. The two had a romantic relationship for some time, and Gellert used it to his advantage, getting Albus to agree to aid him in his search for the Deathly Hallows. The goals the two created was something that he couldn't necessary achieve on his own. To search and find the three items he sought would not be easy nor would achieving the dream of having a world were wizards and witches ruled over muggles. During a heated argument with Albus' brother, Aberforth, he even explained that once they had the Deathly Hallows and were able to create their new world where wizards ruled, Albus and Aberforth's sister, Ariana would not have to hide any longer. The argument, however, turned deadly when they pulled out their wands. Albus and Ariana came in the middle. Albus tried to stop both of them from killing each other by pulling out his own wand, but in the end there was death. Ariana died. None of the three knew who sent the deadly blow that took the little girl's life, but after that, nothing was the same. Gellert fled from Godric's Hollow without approaching Albus again or taking any ownership over Ariana's untimely demise.
□ Personality:
Gellert is highly intelligent man, but he uses his intelligence to try to think of ways to become stronger personally and oppose those he feels is below him. Within his world, he's a firm believer in pureblood superiority in the magical world and that any magical person is superior to muggles. His intelligence and superior attitude has led him to have overconfidence and arrogance on almost anything he takes on. Those factors have also caused him to be a bit cynical and jaded in the way he views things, not trusting anyone easily and always assuming the worse. This part of his personality only got worse after his falling out with Albus, whom he did trust in his own way. He has an inquisitive and curious nature about him that was only aided by his brilliance. This curious nature leads him to try to seek answers to all his questions and ask some questions that the person being asked might be not want to answer to begin with. He finds that when questions aren't being answered properly or to his liking that he get frustrated easily with the situation. He always keeps digging until he finds the answer, resolution, and something that satisfies his curiosity.
Gellert relishes in the fact he can use his natural charm to manipulate those around him. There are occasions the manipulation is not on purpose, but for the most part, he knows what he's doing in order to make sure he's more likely to get the very outcome he wants. He rarely if ever takes responsibility for anything bad or negative or even tragedy that happens in his life. From small things to being expelled to the death of Ariana Dumbledore, Gellert didn't want to admit that he actually that he would have anything to do with it, but he never views himself to be a martyr for any cause. To be the martyr he has to be willing to be sacrifice for the goal, which he would be, but the goal itself would be only to achieve his dreams that benefit him in the future. There are times that he can maintain and control his temper and tongue, but often, he doesn't try to show any self-restraint. His temper is short when he gives into the emotion. More often than not, he tries not to give any emotions, believing them below him. Once he has a distinct motivation for a goal, he's always very determined and driven to accomplish that goal even going to extremes in order to. Gellert is ruthless and dangerous when he sets his mind on something. He would do whatever it takes - including hurting people - to achieve what he feels he deserves. He does not take betrayal lightly and is very vengeful when it comes to seeking to punish someone he feels betrayed or merely questioned him too much. Fear is not a foreign concept to him but he refuses to show it on most situations. He views fear as being a weak emotion and being considered weak isn't something he wants. He hides his fear in the guise of arrogant mocking and taunting the one that scares him.
While Gellert is not a complete all-out murderer (at least from the canon point he is taken from), there is very little good in his personality. He used to have a sense of loyalty, but it was only as far as he could get his way from someone and they were useful to him. Bothering with pleasantries and polite courtesies of society had never been a big concern of his.
□ Age: Given the canon point is accepted, Gellert would be 17.
□ Gender: Male
□ Appearance:
Gellert is a handsome, young man. His hair is curly and blond that he wears on the long side. His eyes are a light hazel that hold intelligence and knowledge. His eyes hold a gleeful, wild look about them when he talks of his ambitions and desires in life. Despite his rather bookish nature, he tries to stay fit with a sturdy and a strong body. His weight and height are average. Gellert favors subdued colors to his clothes.
□ Abilities/Powers: List whatever abilities or powers your character has. We expect longer descriptions for OCs, detailing exactly what they are.
Gellert is a wizard. Utilizing a wand, except for simply magic that could be performed wandless, he casts spells and incantations which can be in the form of charms, hexes, curses, and other spells. When he performs a spell, a glow of light is omitted from the end of his wand. Some magic can be performed without a wand and silently, but normally a wand is needed to perform the magic to its full power and intended outcome. Most of Gellert's skill have been focused on the Dark Arts as well as his interests. As a wizard, Gellert is also trained in potion making. Potions take precise skill to follow directions in order to make the potions correctly and accurately. Even though in canon most wizards and witches need an invisibility cloak in order to become invisible, in canon it's stated that Gellert himself can go invisible without the aid of the cloak. Due to the fact that Lord Voldemort, one of the most skilled Legilimens, could not enter his mind in canon for information, Gellert is shown to be a accomplished occlumens.
□ Personal Items:
The ten personal items brought with Gellert would be:
* His wand (I know his wand would be powerless until his powers are slowly reactivated)
* A set of black wizarding robes
* A pocket watch
* The Tales of Beedle the Bard (book in which "The Story of the Three Brothers" was originally found in which was the original source for the Deathly Hallows)
* His pensieve (I assume that this would not work until he builds any power since it's a magical item.)
* A folder of letters from Albus Dumbledore written to him during the summer (in which discusses their plans to overthrow muggles and their research and search for the Deathly Hallows)
* Wool cloak
* Book of poetry written by a collaboration of witches/wizards
* Parchment, an inkwell with some ink inside (I think this counts for two?)
